error: couldn't find the ModemManager process in the bus

Thank you Aleksander.

I'm on Ubuntu so I tried this without success:

   jmss at aida:~$ sudo update-rc.d modemmanager defaults
   update-rc.d: /etc/init.d/modemmanager: file does not exist

Then I looked inside /etc/init/modemmanager.conf and saw:

   start on starting network-manager
   stop on stopped network-manager

Maybe I'm not running network-manager since this is a server without GUI?
