We're getting there!

Your fix worked - for a few minutes - when applied to the previously hanging
2a44e499 with dea7e0ac, 095f979a & afada5e0 cherry-picked.

When applied to the nouveau HEAD, Linux no longer hangs, but the display isn't
driven properly - the LCD goes white, then fades to black.

I'll attach my current patch to nouveau HEAD and the corresponding console
output.
