If I leave the DisplayPort connector disconnected, then I can start X using the nouveau driver on the in-built LVDS display. If I then connect the DisplayPort connector, it shows up in xrandr but trying to enable it results in the same "hang" as trying to boot with the DisplayPort cable connected.
