Don't know what "make install" really does, I've never used it. I think it
tends to hook into distro stuff. Hopefully it also installs modules, not just
the kernel. I usually run "make modules_install". But I don't know if that's
the right thing to do on your distro/the way that you're setting up kernels.

That doesn't say anything about your procedure though. Perhaps do a
git checkout drivers/gpu/drm/nouveau
git checkout a4feaf4ea5359db96a253154eafca358d16152b2
And re-build/install in the same way as you've been doing and make sure that
HDMI sound works (and that the eld file doesn't, as you had verified earlier).</pre>
