<pre>You can use a livecd as well. I think Arch's tend to be pretty up-to-date.
Also, as you yourself have pointed out on other bugs, VIA's AGP implementation
back in the day left something to be desired. Does booting with
nouveau.agpmode=0 fix it? How about agpmode=1? agpmode=2?</pre>
