<pre>Ilia suggested that I try booting with nouveau.config=NvForcePost=1.
I had TV plugged in HDMI and on, I booted the first bad kernel revision with
nouveau.config=NvForcePost=1, and got no picture on either HDMI or LVDS once
Nouveau initialized.
