That's just a problem in reading or speech comprehension.

Perhaps some people are underestimating the hardship caused by program
development, and thus see the hardship caused by font development as
unique.

(And I speculate that DEK had to beg people like me to upgrade their
CM fonts on account of failure to upgrade your fonts being just about
the least harmful failure to upgrade that one could do with a TeX
installation, other than a minor bug fix.)
