Well... They attempt to actually simulate the physical properties of pigments, 
following the research by Kubelka and Monk, as described by Baxter in his 
dissertation. Not complete rgb derivatives, I think -- there are also 
substance and substrate componets, and in some cases localized gravity, 
involved.

Yes, once we get cmyk to work without the bugs that plague us -- I nearly had 
it working in time for the release, only to be called away by other bugs. 
And with all tools and filters Krita has. Yuv, is in the works, too -- someone 
is (or should be) working on that right now. Indeed, apart from our bugs, 
there's nothing to stop the user from doing exactly what you describe.

I need to investigate that library, then. Does Scribus use gutenprint, too? I 
should investigate...
