Well, can we do:
Downloading [package name or # of packages]:
[Progressbar]
Installing [package name or # of packages]:
[Progressbar]
Complete [or 'Failed' + error message]

?

That tells the user what's going on, and gives him feedback as to how
far it has progressed.
