imo i'd say that this might become dificult to merge, as Richard stated..
also kde svn has an anonymous access so creating patches and sending
them to us it's not a big deal imo.

How about cloning that repository and mirroring it with git and hosting 
it in freedesktop.org, allow more free commit access and pull in
