hey, remember the platform?

it's been a while since the last missive about this. here's some misguided
nonsense I said last time around, and possibly equally misguided current
opinion:

fontconfig and pkgconfig still sound like good ideas. dbus and gstreamer, i'd
need to see some 1.0 numbers and an adoption level that's more than just
"well automounting CDs kinda works", but they seem to have high enough
interest level to be included some day.

hal i'm less certain about, since to my knowledge no one is using it in any
real sense outside of linux. and cairo isn't being used in KDE, so it's
right out of any list of de-facto adopted code.

are there other packages we should be considering here?

heh, that didn't happen.

indeed, five specs and zero software packages. the menu and wm specs have had
revision bumps since april; should we do a specs 1.1 to reflect that? have
any other specs reached a high enough adoption level to warrant a specs 2?

i don't expect any sort of decision on this before DDC/OLS, and possibly not
until after Xorg 7.0. just trying to get an idea of where people are at.
