Using plymouth to install updates at startup time

I guess either way is "fine" as long as it's opt-in by the user.  a
clean slate before starting the updates will add a bit of robustness
(which is good), though it doesnt' seem strictly necessary, imo.
Certainly, nothing wrong with doing it, if that's Lennart's
preference.
