Determining if plymouth's graphical splash is active

Hi,

During boot with my graphical splash, I can press escape to alternate
between the graphical splash and the text display.

Is there a way that a process outside of plymouthd can determine if
the graphical splash is active, as opposed to the text mode?

"plymouth --ping" and "plymouth --has-active-vt" seem to return true
in both (text, graphical) cases.
