Everything to the left of the shift column has a black background making the
text indistinguishable. Some of the cells to the right also have this problem.
This appears to be a distinct from bug 4348, though the same PDF is at question.
I am also experiencing similar bugs in other PDFs.

Using Evince 0.4.0 using poppler 0.4.5 (cairo) on Debian GNU/Linux sid/unstable.
