I tested the referenced pdf in xpdf (both xpdf as released and a poppler-based
version from Gentoo’s xpdf ebuild).

In both cases the scanned pages are rendered blank and xpdf writes:

Error (74600): Error in JPX stream

When I tried to view it in ghostscript 8.62 with the x11alpha DEVICE my X
crashed. ;-/  But it was able to render it to file-based DEVICEs.

So there may be a bug in xpdf302’s handling of JPX which poppler may have
inherited.

Or there may be a bug in the PDF which ghostscript ignores or avoids.
