Last time I looked at the code to try to get a handle on this I got lost in
trying to figure out how the PDF dictionary works and gave up.  The biggest
issue here is understanding the dictionary code and structure so that the
rendering intents for each object can be found and used.   So this needs to be
looked at by someone who knows how the dictionary works.  Someone like me, who
has not worked with the dictionary code at all, is more likely to screw things
up than to make them better.
