I replaced nearly every lock/unlock. From my point of view only the annotation stuff is open. Funny: because okular renders with this patch and can search parallel, the search may be jump to a white page, and when the rendering for this page finishes the former searched text is marked :-) @Albert: it would be nice if You can test this patch BEFORE having a deeper look into it.
