While we were testing Picasa, we found that it was neccessary to do
  ln -s /opt/picasa/bin/picasa /usr/bin/picasa
Otherwise it was too hard to explain how to run the app from the commandline.
(Seriously.  It has to be *that* easy.)
It made me cringe to do this, though.
I would much rather pollute /opt/bin, though for it to be useful /opt/bin
would have to be in all users' default PATH.
