for kwallet maybe this helps to explain the interface...

because keyring/kwallet don't come with command-line tools, perhaps a 
helper binary could be added to xdg-utils, which does the library calls 
with dlopen/dlsym...

the helper binary could be launched from the xdg-passwd-store script...

but i don't know how dlopen/dlsym works with C++
