 Not sure I follow Lennart. {{{pulseaudio --start}}} should start a daemon
 surely? The checks here are to decide whether or not to start a daemon at
 all, not to prevent a second instance being started. Are you suggesting
 that pulseaudio --start becomes also a pulseaudio client, e.g. parsing the
 client.conf to determine whether it needs to be started or not? IMO this
 is not a good idea as there may be reasons you want to start a pulse
 server even if the current machine's client setup dictates that it's using
 a remote server.

 That said, I guess I wouldn't be against a {{{--if-needed}}} argument e.g.
 {{{pulseaudio --start --if-needed}}}
