 There is a stop backwards with the alsa driver in linux kernel 2.6.32-rc8
 (which I think is the same as the one in alsa-driver-1.0.21).  With that
 driver, an onset of sound distortion can be triggered just by altering the
 pulseaudio volume using the volume control in pavucontrol or in gnome-
 mixer.

 Altering the volume with alsamixer does not trigger this.
