 I reinstalled ubuntu jaunty and upgraded to karmic,  I'm using the same
 version of pulseaudio as I did when I reported this problem and I have not
 modify the default.pa file.  This is what is in my syslog file

 Sep  6 04:22:56 desktop pulseaudio[2608]: pid.c: Daemon already running.
 Sep  6 04:24:31 desktop pulseaudio[2604]: ratelimit.c: 3 events suppressed

 Sep  6 04:24:37 desktop pulseaudio[2663]: pid.c: Stale PID file,
 overwriting.

 Sep  6 04:24:39 desktop pulseaudio[2667]: pid.c: Daemon already running.
