 Well, I am listening to ideas, but I don't see that catching SIGBUS on the
 client side would be feasible.

 What surprises me a little is that I never heard of this bug outside of
 Ubuntu, so I wonder if this might be specific to Ubuntu, and instead of
 trying to live with it, one should try to fix it there.

 So, my guess is that on Ubuntu something takes up more memory in /dev/shm
 that doesn't take up that much memory on other distributions, or
 alternatively, the size of /dev/shm is much smaller than on other
 distributions. And hence, please reproduce the issue, then do a "du -hc
 /dev/shm/*" and report back. Thanks.
