Comment(by coling):

 If you have a specialist sound card you can create a special mixer profile
 for it and tell PA to use via a udev rule.

 See the folder {{{/usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/profile-sets/}}} on
 your system for some example definitions for specialist h/w.

 Then you can see how these are applied via udev in
 {{{/lib/udev/rules.d/90-pulseaudio.rules}}}
