This is suboptimal because now we #error out on FreeBSD...

The crux of the problem here comes back down to this check in configure.ac that
assumes that sys/capability.h means anything in particular.  It turns out that
the presence of this file on FreeBSD is related to the existence of a very
different feature than on Linux...
