Sorry about the html mail. Didn't know it was a problem. I am new to mailing lists. This will be my last entry using this mail adress.

Let me explain:

I use two M-audio cards (8+4 channels), hence the double entry for module 1712. I don't really need my third sound-card (hda-intel), which is built in, but it's the only one working with pulseaudio at the moment. I've tried the hack where you add a couple of lines into /usr/share/alsa/cards/ice1712.conf, but since I have the intel-card, I don't really ned the hack.

I use Pure Data for a music project and I needed 12 channels for it. I have that now, using OSS to achieve multi card use (I am trying to find out how to achieve this with alsa and Jack).
The mod I made to alsa-base.conf works for my specific needs. I needed
to make sure none of the usb-devices would load before the soundcards, because if they did, I wouldn't be able to see the soundcards in Pure Data's preferences. I wouldn't be able to use the the soundcards at all. It took me a few hours to find out how to do it and now it works. I got my 12 channels, but I got problems elsewhere instead.

By locked, I mean, no sound. But the pulseaudio daemon is still running. No sound until I either restart pulseaudio or shutdown the computer. When I do a shutdown I hear a system sound, just before loggin out (not the sound from inside the computer, but the sound coming out from the speakers).

I will post something to alsa's list later. I wouldn't have posted here, if pulseaudio would never have been affected. I was kind of suprised that it was. I know too little for sure to understand how, myself. Just trying to find out a little and maybe learn something.

Anyway, there it is..

Windows Live: Keep your friends up to date with what you do online.
