Hi Colin,

Sorry about top posting but the cursor won't go to the bottom.

It seems the problem started after installing package xul-ext-downthemall.
Anyway, I could see by the level meter using PA Volume Control that my headset microphone was working. There is an application called gnome-sound-recorder (which I discovered is part of package gnome-media) that I tried to record my voice. At first it didn't record anything. It has a "config" tab and after setting up my headset there I could actually record something and play it back. I then tested out Skype and it worked as per normal.

So, somehow, installing that package upset a configuration setting. I have since removed the package.

I suppose you know that Skype on Linux only has PulseAudio as its only "option". Not really an option. Now that windoze has bought out Skype I suppose
we'll all be migrating to Ekiga.

Thanks for your help.

Robert

--- Em ter, 7/6/11, Colin Guthrie <gmane@colin.guthr.ie> escreveu:

De: Colin Guthrie <gmane@colin.guthr.ie>
Assunto: Re: [pulseaudio-discuss] Microphone Confusion
Para: pulseaudio-discuss@mail.0pointer.de
Data: Terça-feira, 7 de Junho de 2011, 8:28

'Twas brillig, and Robert Stone at 07/06/11 05:06 did gyre and gimble:
> Hi,
>
> A few days ago I could use Skype normally. It's really
just a debug tool nothing more (and generally for debugging I prefer
pacmd list anyway as we can give that output on mailing lists and IRC etc.)

Use pavucontrol. It's the main mixer app. When Skype is recording, you
will see a stream under the "Recording" tab and will be able to move the
stream from the device it's chosen to the device you want to use.

But please note that from the screenshot, it seems you've picked a
output only digital profile for your headset. You can adjust profiles in
the "Configuration" tab of pavucontrol. I suspect that the headset is
just reporting that it can handle digital audio when it cannot and thus
the sound is just effectively going to /dev/null.
