I did an install on top of my existing installation, and
survived to tell the tale.
Two details noticed so far:
1) xorg.xpm is missing, so I had to do a make -k install
2) the install doesn't do an /sbin/ldconfig on Linux, so
xdpyinfo failed until I reran it.
