Ok, SCIM started with scim -d with XIM driving Gnome apps, you get problem.
I also have now X start up script having:

GDK_USE_XFT=1; export GDK_USE_XFT
scim -d 
# GTK 2.0 default input as XIM
GTK_IM_MODULE="xim" ; export GTK_IM_MODULE
# For good old XIM applications
XMODIFIERS="@im=SCIM" ; export XMODIFIERS

I initially could not reproduce problem when SCIM panel was off.

When I tried to turn on SCIM while gksu is on, I get problem of completely
frozen X with screwed up cursor.  I have to kill X with CTRL-ALT-BS.

Hmmm... I do not know either.

Anyway, you only face problen when you try to type in non-ascii for 
your password... Interesting.  CCed to SCIM ML.

Does anyone on other system get this problem with gnumeric patched SCIM?
