Ok, I just skipped ahead to the next step which is:

"In both cases:
cd <spice_root>/vdesktop
./configure --enable-spice"

First ./configure complained about not having libgcrypt, which was
installed.  Clearly it meant to complain about not having
libgcrypt-devel because when I installed that it proceeded to give me a
new error:
