This is based on the master branch of xf86-video-qxl, which AFAIK is fully
0.4 compatible (does not use any 0.6 stuff).

That is probably best answered by ssp, but looking at his private
git repo offscreen surface using branch, I see no compat stuff, so
I guess the plan is having 2 differently named drivers and
teach the xorg server which one to load when.

When choosing the latter we should better rename the driver binary so old and new qxl drivers can be parallel-installed ...

Right (give the new driver another name)
