Just to close the loop, I just tried exercising a recent version of systemd
(208-1) using the analysis utility used for characterizing the earlier
problems. That tool checks only for "Starting" and "Started" messages, so
obviously doesn't have 100% fault coverage, but it found zero dropped "Start*"
messages in 5 boot cycles, whereas with 204-1, had been seeing something like
10-15% on average.
So, nice job on the fix for a nasty problem.
