        <pre>Yes, the problem was that the KDE session stayed in the foreground but logind
though I switched away from it.  I couldn't find any action assigned to
Alt+Left in KDE's shortcut key configuration, so I assumed logind was somehow
receiving it directly (which is of course ridiculous).  However, I cannot
reproduce it anymore.  I recently had an NVIDIA driver update; maybe that
driver was doing something stupid.</pre>
