If this is going to be a generic interface for persistently identified
channels, it could be used in channel handover (bug #28378) for cases when
channel identities can be linked. It's not practical to use object paths for
linking calls or chats over different protocols served by different CMs.
Protocol-specific IDs, on the other hand, are likely to be used by underlying
protocol pairs, so there would be no magic inter-CM knowledge sharing
necessary.
