<pre>Currently weston aborts if XDG_RUNTIME_DIR is unset. However the XDG base dir
spec says:
"If $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR is not set applications should fall back to a replacement
directory with similar capabilities and print a warning message."[1]
This is specially problematic because of weston-launch resetting the
environment (<a class="bz_bug_link
bz_status_NEW "
title="NEW --- - weston-launch clears environment variables"
href="show_bug.cgi?id=61877">bug 61877</a>).
