Even though it is a bit late for this release, something we should
consider is whether we should go forward with the "proxy wrapper"
solution to the multi thread queue race condition.

For the sake of having something explicit to discuss, I have rebased and
reworked the patches introducing proxy wrappers, and will post them
shortly. If not for this release, we should definitely aim for having a
solution for the one after.
