I'm sure to not understand why sharing was needed before but now not
anymore but it is what I conclude from your text.

You probably know if this is (1) still in use in AGL, (2) still needed
for AGL, (3) when it will leave AGL. But reading the answer in the
mailing list of AGL is probably better than here.
