It seems I explained it badly.

Even if I get the original (non-patched) xorg-6.8.2.tar.gz, untar it, and
do a "make World", it will compile the VIA driver on i386 and will not
even try to compile it on an amd64 machine. There's some setting which
prevents VIA from being compiled on this specific architecture. I want to
change that.
