Message-ID: <20081020142943.GE2321@lasse.mail.plastictre.net> There is no xfs module in the current (7.4) release directories. I _presume_ (although I could not find that documented anywhere!) that one is supposed to get the module from the next older release in such a case (and if it does not exist in that release, then in the next but one older, and so on). However, the next older release, i.e., 7.3, offers the outdated version 1.0.4, which even contains security flaws. What is the best way to get a _complete_ set of all released modules in their _latest_ version? Even after some days of digging around, I am still confused by the directory structure found on the FTP server. Thank you for a clarification! Ok. Where did you get that information from? Is there any place where such information is gathered? Could it be that anything not linked into the 7.4 release directories is, in fact, deprecated? That would mean that also xdm ist deprecated. If so, which module is to replace xdm - and, again, where was I supposed to find that information? Thank you for your answer. If so, which module is to replace xdm - and, > again, where was I supposed to find that information? xfs & xdm aren't really deprecated in the "stop using them" sense, they're just no longer considered core pieces that every X11R7.4 installation should have, but optional pieces that some sites may want to install. The replacement for xdm is whatever display manager your desktop environment uses, gdm for GNOME, kdm for KDE, or if you still like the 80's look and feel, xdm for the Xaw desktop. Since most distros already ship gdm or kdm, telling them to also bundle xdm that most users won't use doesn't make much sense, but X.Org is still maintaining it for those users who do want it. This has been discussed several times this year on the xorg at lists.freedesktop.org mailing list. -- -Alan Coopersmith- alan.coopersmith at sun.com Sun Microsystems, Inc. - X Window System Engineering
