What problem do you see here that you're trying to solve? I'm pretty
pleased with how we landed the renaming.

Aside from the minor premature changes to xcb-proto, we *did* get the
renaming pushed atomically. And sure, I at least was using a local
branch. I think Josh committed directly to his local 'master' branch,
but he didn't push until ready.

xcb-util and xcb-demo are not part of XCB. The renaming that Ian is
doing now is great but unrelated to the XCB release process or, in most
cases, to outside users of XCB.

The fact that I haven't run my renaming script over libX11 yet is a
mistake, but not one solvable by git, since that's a separate repo.
