Those look suspiciously like Debian testing/sid versions. So I
upgraded from 'stable' (I'm using x86-32), and I still can't reproduce
the bug:

(running "xmodmap -" three times in another window)
$ ./a.out
EV EV EV!
EV EV EV!
EV EV EV!

Are you using a different CPU (x86-64 or ARM, maybe)? Are you sure
you're using the system versions? Do you have stale versions in
/usr/local or similar? What does 'ldd a.out' say?
