<pre>We should definitely commit something like this. Wouldn't it be better to just
purge (or move aside) the m4 directory and then just run "git submodule update
--init" than to remind the user?
I think we also want to make sure that configure.ac includes LT_INIT; it's not
a fatal error, but it is a warning.</pre>
