in a thread on the xdg list (iirc that was the list) others had pointed out 
(pretty accurately, imho) that these icons are used in media players (e.g. 
music apps) and as such tend to not be designed for that context and not be 
very clear for the purpose which james is talking about.

in kde3 we also have media icons and yet those weren't enough.

(btw, we have a good number of icons in kde4 that aren't in the naming spec 
which we really need to move upstream once we're further into the betas for 
4.0)
