.Directory Entries

Hey,

Just trying to get a clarified explanation of how .directory files work, as
the documentation at both
http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/latest/ar01s05.html and
http://library.gnome.org/admin/system-admin-guide/stable/menustructure-14.html.en
don't
quite explain it clearly.
