[Xesam] SPARQL approved by W3C

Does somebody have a collection of resources (links) for a programmer
who wants to learn to use SPARQL?

I have recently tried to get into it, but didn't learn much. I tried to use
dbpedia as a real world rdf data provider example. But in essence all
I could find were the w3c specs and some online query builders
which do not operate transparently enough.
