Stupid me that I overlooked those...

However, even a PURGE followed by a WAIT_IDLE as in

    OUT_ACCEL_REG(RADEON_RB2D_DSTCACHE_CTLSTAT, RADEON_RB2D_DC_FLUSH_ALL);
    OUT_ACCEL_REG(RADEON_WAIT_UNTIL, RADEON_WAIT_2D_IDLECLEAN |
RADEON_WAIT_3D_IDLECLEAN | RADEON_WAIT_HOST_IDLECLEAN);

does not help. The patterns only go away if pre-rendering is active. I do not
see any further possibilities to flush the cache, but then I didn't noice this
