I have been trying to get mathematica to run well for a long time here on my 
laptop.  I am running Gentoo Linux with the Xorg 6.8.0 server.  When I run 
Mathematica, it runs very slow.  Just as it begins to generate the menus it 
slows way down.  This is also the point where I am sure it is allocating memory 
for the motif canvas style window.  Every keypress takes forever to show up and 
the CPU usage is at 100% for most of the time the slowdown is occuring. I have 
installed XFree 4.3.0 to see if it works there, fantastically.  So, I am not 
sure where the problem is.  I guess I could begin to do incremental installes 
of the versions to help narrow down the problem to a specific set of changes.  
I am just not sure what information to give to help here.  I will try to attach 
my config file for reference though I am not sure that will really help.
