After a week I can say that this patch fixes all glitches and I've just noticed
that it fixed my problems with Type1 fonts' rendering too, I suggest inclusion
in both 6.8.x and HEAD branches.

my opinion: it seems that most glitches used to appear on the right side of the
rectangle in which letters are included. maybe Matthias patch by pre-rendering
small textures simply reduced the frequency of glitches so they were often
unnoticed?
