have you enabled building Composite in your host.def ?
it's disabled per default and i was getting the same
errors when i tried to use it, but x.org was missing
#define BuildComposite          YES

you did have it listed in xdpyinfo output ?
and no problems with any window manager ?

i tried ~8-10 WM's and i think it mostly works on
gnome2.6, but even there X crashed while i was playing/resizing a mozilla
window

as said enlightenment doesn't even start

here are some nice pic's :(
strange issues with XVideo (i think) mostly, but not
only

http://mandrake.contactel.cz/people/svetljo/mandrake/probably_broken/composite/

gdm's session menu has a green shadow , and sometimes
crashes X

eterm has strange collors in the text area and the titlebar
depending on wether
composite is disabled in build, turned on or off via xorg.conf

clicking on mozilla window with composite enabled
is like sliding a green film over the entire screen.
the green film vanisches when i click outside of mozilla
/* i couldn't capture this sorry :( */

best,

svetljo
