I tested your patch applied to the 6.8.1 release on my 800Mhz G3 iBook with:

00:10.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility 
M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500]

But it does not fix the native video mode setup. Without "UseFBDev" I 
still get the same flickering noisy lines .

I have some gross hack applied to my private tree, that is not yet fully 
polished, to use native mode setup and so use the Crt2. Too bad my 
current patch is just a big hack.
